How to keep your desk organised

2 min

We’ve all been there, desk a mess, papers everywhere and you can’t find the notes you desperately need for a meeting… With a myriad of organisational systems out there to choose from, it’s hard to know which one will work for you without trial and error. That said - there’s far too many to try and the overwhelm can be unbearable.

Whether you’re struggling to get into the groove at home, or your place of work has recently started hot desking or clear desk policies - the way we work has changed and our organisational skills need to adapt. We’re not here to give you a tried and tested method - simple to help you with product suggestions so you can choose the ones that work best for you and your environment.

Here’s our suggestions:

Desk Pedestal

If you’re looking for an at home solution to clutter then having a desk with drawers or matching desk pedestal can be a great addition. Having a designated place to put your documents and equipment will keep your desktop free for the important tools needed for the task at hand.

Shelving

If your desk is against a wall then having floating shelves could be a tasteful option for lighter and more decorative pieces of equipment. It’s also handy if you don’t have much desk space or like to keep your worktop completely clear of stationery and visuals.

Essential Stationery

The aim of an orgnised desk isn’t to look pretty - it’s to help you work effectively. So while aesthetically pleasing notebooks and desk tidies can be big sellers, they’re not always the most efficient. Try keeping the stationery on your desk to a minimum: One pen, one notebook or desk pad and one highlighter. Having hoards of coloured pen options can be overwhelming and slow you down.

Organisation System

Believe it or not, sticky notes are not a viable organisation system. Not only do they make your desk look a mess, they’re easy to lose and difficult to put into a prioritised action plan. Whether it’s a paper diary, desk pad or digital project manager like Trello or Asana - a system to keep you organised and on task will also help you to keep your physical space clear and free from clutter.
